Easter Fun

Last week we spent Palm Sunday preparing ourselves for Good Friday & Easter.  For lunch we went to the cabin, grilled out, and spent time with Karl's family.  It is very fun to stop and take time to relax with family and catch up.  Below "the girls" are getting their share of eggs to hide for the kids.

Sometimes the sweetest things in life are the simple ones like saying "thank-you".  Here Ezra is saying thank you to Aunt Emily for preparing an egg hunt for him and his cousins.

Another simple thing--Karl showing Adalli a baby kitty.

I had Good Friday as a holiday at work which I was very thankful for so I spent my day back home (sully) with my family.  I cuddled in a chair with Rowan all afternoon :)

Our first Easter.

When I was a little girl, one of the things I remember the most about Easter was that I got to wear a new dress to church (usually one that my mom had made me) get my hair curled and take a picture before church all dressed up.  This is me in 1992 (3 yrs old) taking my Easter picture.
I thought it would be funny to take a picture in front of the couch this year too.  19 years later I'm still curling my hair and wearing floral print dresses to church :)

"He arose, He arose, Allelujah Christ Arose"  was one of the songs we sang in church this morning.  Easter is always a special service and a great rememberance of the price Jesus paid for us on Good Friday and how he rose again 3 days later with the promise of salvation---now that's "Amazing Grace".

Today we went to Aunt Glenda & Uncle Jon's house for a Van Wyk family lunch.  Renae is gathering her eggs from the egg hunt she and her siblings did.
My dad, brother, and brother-in-law drove their motorcyles to dinner.

My first Harley ride with my dad :)
Took a ride with Uncle Jon & Taylor.
It's always nice to spend time with family you don't see all the time.  My cousin Josh will be marrying Jordan on 9/10/11.

Catching up and relaxing with family is a great way to spend an afternoon.  Happy Easter everyone! :)

Karl may be the twin but my little sister Leah & I get asked if we are twins.....A LOT.  I am sure to tell everyone right away that  we aren't twins but that she looks like me, because I am older :)  Here we are looking like twinkies.

My parents bought their first Harley last week and we thought we'd try out their helmets for them.

Proud owners!  This picture was taken at "The Harley Barn" in Des Moines.

Somehow, my mother and I ended up buying the same exact coat without the other knowing it until we saw eachother.  She thinks it's pretty funny that she"dresses like a 22 yr old" but then I remind her that my 25 yr old sister picked it out for her :)  I guess I'm a twinkie more than I think!

When we moved into our house it was livable.  Since then, we have been working on the interior.  Karl does all the handy man work and I make it look pretty :)

This is our infamous sidewalk enterance to our house.  It is 4 sheets of plywood and then a beat up step that was left at the house from the old owners.  I have been asking Karl for a deck and as you can see, in the top left corner of the picture there is a post.  Karl put the posts in the ground last fall and that's all the father the deck has gotten.  One night it had rained and I was carrying groceries in and completely wiped out, groceries went flying everywhere and I had mud all over me and the food I picked up out of the field.  Needless to say, still no deck.  Then, one night we got home from town and it was snowing pretty hard so Karl said to wait in the car while he went to unlock the front door.....BAM! Karl wiped out, face first into the snow.  After feeling bad for him I thought for sure I was going to get a deck.....nope, no deck yet :)  I've given up now because it's spring but hopefully I can get him to build one before next winter!

Karl worked really hard and got all the window trim, woodwork and baseboards put in the house.  That was my birthday present!

This is a picture of the woodwork around the bathroom window.  He did a great job!

Last week he fixed the front yard and leveled it off, planted grass and added rock to the driveway.  Hopefully our grass grows well!

"As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord"  I got these wall letterings put up in the house last week!

This is the letterings above our bed.

My next project for myself if making a picture book of our house from where we began to where we will be at the end of our summer!

Texas Ya'll

At the beginning of January we packed up and headed to Texas for Matt & Megan Boender's wedding.  t was a very fun weekend and our first trip away together as couples.
All 6 of us, Kurt & Emily, Karl & I, RJ & Tori, packed up in RJ's truck and drove the 9 hours straight through.  We stopped a couple times for food and stretching and it seemed to go very fast!  There was never a dull moment with the 3 boys in the front seat!
Tori was getting into her stretching when we stopped.

 We made it!!
The boys had a lot of fun hanging out and seeing Matt again-- they miss him a lot!!

Congrats Matt & Megan!  We are excited to have you move back soon!

Van Wyk Girls Chicago Weekend

At the beginning of March, all my Van Wyk aunts and girls cousins left for Chicago.  We started out by all getting manicures and pedicures.

We had Chicago style pizza for dinner.

We're all here! We could have done some major damage on Michigan Avenue.

My mom and sisters.

We were worn out after shopping ALLLLLL day! :)  We had a great weekend spending time with family and thanks to Nicole for being our host around Chicago!!

Baby Shower

On February 26th, I threw my older sister Rachel, a baby shower.  Her and my brother-in-law Matt are expecting their first baby, due on April 12th.

We played a couple games, opened gifts and ate.

I think no matter whether we lived together or now apart, my sisters and I will all seem to always have the same style in clothes....we all showed up with our grey boots on!

We are all very excited for the baby to come in the next few weeks!

Winter Happenings

I thought I'd summarize happenings from our winter months to get up to date.  Here are a few of our winter memories.
My dad had to help Karl put on a tie....needless to say, we went home the next week and learned how to put it on through googling it :)

Karl & I sit in our chair and a half together and watch tv....but when I get the remote, Karl plugs in his earphones and watches something else on the computer.  He obviously doesn't share the same interest in tv shows :)
Karl bought a 3 point blade and used that to clear out snow.  It worked out pretty well and he even bladed me to the highway a few times to get to work.

Our first Valentine's Day was spent grilling steak and eating a Dairy Queen ice cream cake for desert.
I had Karl reenact the scene of his infamous "I shot a deer from the front door" story.  The story is, Karl was working in the house, putting up a light/fan and saw deer standing outside our living room window.  So of course, what do you do when you see a deer out the window?  Go shoot it! (according to Karl)  And that's what he did.  He grabbed his gun and shot a deer standing from our front door.  Oh, the things that go through a guys head...
We had my little cousins Kara, Kelly & Renae stay over a weekend a few times.  We did everything from riding in the tractor, to eating out, to baking, watching movies and playing Wii.  This particular weekend we dyed Easter eggs and painted them.
