I Love You This Big

I don't know if any of you remember, but for the guest book at our wedding, we had a calendar that we had all our guests sign.  It has been very fun to flip the page each month and see different names of people who came to support us on that day.  A couple weeks ago I was putting events on our calendar and flipped over to November and....wait..what? There was no November!  Apparently I only did a 12 month calendar and so I am in need of a new calendar in a month!  I could have used wedding and engagement pictures for the new year, but I have those hanging all over my house.  So, I asked Karl's sister Becky if she would take some shots of us that I could use to make my new calendar.  I told her I didn't care what they were as long as I had 14 (November through NEXT December) total.  It was a very fun afternoon and didn't take long at all!  As we were in between shots Becky would change lighting, shutter speed and other big words I don't remember, and they turned out great!  She has such a great eye for capturing well, EVERYTHING!  Thank you very much for taking them Becky! We LOVE them.

And here's our best shot:
JUST KIDDING!! I am SO not a serious person.  It was a good try though.  Really it just makes me laugh at how ridiculous I look :)  I hope it gave you a good laugh too!

Love is a journey.  Sometimes it's a little blurry and not always easy to see the end...

Sometimes there is cloudy days...

Someitmes you just need to have your space & relax....

Sometimes you need to give the one you love a swift kick in the butt :)

Love is realizing a ring isn't a pretty shiny object, but a commitment and promise.

Love is giving yourself up for one another...
Love is realizing you found the one you will share the rest of your life with!

Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13: 4-8
Please listen to my favorite song (and my ringtone for Karl currently) as you look through the rest of the pics! :)

I Love You This Big, Karl :)

Cleanin' Out

One night last week I decided that I wanted to clean out/arrange the garage so I could park my car in there again (I didn't all summer).  I think I picked up about 1 thing and thought "forget it".  I waited until Karl could help me later on that night instead.  It's not that I was incapable, it's that it was all his tools & misc junk that I didn't know if it was "keep" or "pitch out".  Once he was able to help me it didn't take very long at all to get it organized...and about half of the stuff in there went in the back of his truck to the junk pile.

Karl told me that I was making a better supervisor than a helper...I took that as a compliment :) haha

The burn pile- we've burned it 3 or 4 times in the past year, but it's still pretty big with all the junk from our house yet!

I love riding in the combine. :)

We were on a farm where we had to watch out for huge rocks, which were more like boulders.  Here, Karl is definately focused on keeping an eye out for them.

This is our first year of being youth group leaders.  We were really excited to start but also had those thoughts like "what if they don't respect us- they are only 4-5 years younger than us- we hope we are good examples".  So far, it has been very fun and we enjoy it alot.  Last week we went mini golfing and here is a group shot.  If everyone comes we have about 40 kids.  It's going great and we look forward to it every week!

My next post will have some very fun pictures of Karl & I.  I'm having a hard time choosing which ones are my favorite-- keep a look out! :)

What's Up?

What's up?  I feel like after 2 busy weeks I'm finally getting back on top of things.  I love blogging and wish I had time to do it more often, so usually my posts consist of a large conglomeration of events.

I was on my way home from having dinner with friends one night in Pella and as I'm driving along I see a white car pulled over on the side of the road.  Usually I wouldn't think anything of it because the reality is, there is no way I could be beneficial to help someone on the side of the road (I've never even had to jump start someone, but I do have the cables...just incase :) )  But my friend Tori has a white car and so I thought "hmmm, i better go check".  So as I turned around and am driving back down the highway I'm thinking to myself, "what if this is a creep who is going to hurt me, what if I never make it home, what if they try to rob me and pull away?".  So I'm freaking out after I've thought of every bad scenario that could happen and as I'm pulling up behind the car with my flashers on I see the Mary-Kay sticker and realize all is going to be okay.  It's just Tori.  My train of thought suddently changed.  Crap! How are TWO girls going to be able to help this situation?!
Tori had blown her tire and was patiently waiting on the side of the road for her siblings to come get her because her husband was away on a business trip.  We started grabbing the spare out of the back (yes, we knew that cars had spare tires) and tried to do what we could.

And then the ditsy girl moment came in to play.  Good try, Tori, but FIX A FLAT isn't going to work with your blown tire....

Good thing Kurt was on his way home to help the helpless on the roadside.  A friendly neighbor, Mr. Overbergen helped us out too.

Mike has been working on the terraces in our field the past couple weeks.  They are looking great!

I love having equipment around the makes me feel not so lonely.  Wait, how does that make me feel less lonely?  I'm not sure....but it feels more like a farm when there is equipment everywhere :)

Karl & I have gone to the 2 home PC football games so far this year.  He loves watching it and reminiscing about the past when he played (he is #42 in the pic above).  I remember watching him play in high school, but only as a spectator...not as a girlfriend.  I wish I could remember more about it, and wish I could have worn his jersey to the games.  Then again, it's probably a good thing that we weren't dating then, because he would've been day dreaming about me during the games and got tackeled....JUST KIDDING :)

We went to the wedding last night with Jason & Karissa.  They are great and tons of fun to be with.  I thought it'd be appropriate to include them in my post today because it is their 1 year anniversary!  Happy Anniversary! :)

I love weddings.  I love everything about weddings and I love that Karl slow dances with me at weddings.

Kirsten got married yesterday, she looked beautiful and was beaming the whole night.  These are a few of my close girlfriends from high school.  One of our other close girlfriends got married yesterday too.  It's too bad that I couldn't be in two places at once because I would have loved to be there too.  Congrats to Kirsten & Sarah!

Josh & Jordon got married last weekend.  She looked gorgeous and it was a very fun day!

This picture is pretty least the left side is anyway :)

Even after wearing 3 inch heels, and my sisters being flat footed/barefoot, I am STILL the shortest.  Do you think we look alike?

Welcome to the family full of girls, Jordon! :)

Labor Day Weekend

Ahhhh.  Beautiful weather, family, food, & fun.  I had a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend with my mom's side of the family.  Uncle Jon & Aunt Glenda invited everyone to their lake home and we all got a weekend away.  30 people, 1 home, lots of fun.

Birds eye view of the kitchen and living room area.
Everyone relaxing after eating pizza pockets & pies over the fire.
Rowan enjoying the outdoors too.  Kinda looks like Dopey the Dwarf in this pic :)  In case anyone is curious, Rowan's first tooth popped through.

On Saturday night we went to an auction.  There are all different types of items from pool tables, dressers, desks, knick nacks, pies, clothes, towels etc.
 Misc. boxes full of "goodies".
Auctioning off pies.

There was a guy who kept seeming to follow Nicole around the site.  ....and I'm not talking about the guy in the black shirt... ;)
Karl decided to bid on a bucket of junk, but it had a new reciever hitch in it.  Along w/ this receiver hitch, came cords, plug ins, and a couple books with someone's graduation and prom pictures in it.  Needless to say, the only thing we kept was the hitch.  The tub 'o junk didn't make it hit the trash in MO before we left.

What does it take?  Can you handle it?  Can you own it?  Can you be a Van Wyk Girl? I'm like YES! :)
The women in this picture are a very special group.  We are all the Van Wyk women.  We can take it, dish it, handle it, own it, and make it look good.  There is no other group like us.  We giggle, joke, laugh, poke fun, and are always there for one another.  There is a bond that is unseperable.  We look alike, talk alike, and think alike.  We are unique.
With everyone's busy schedules it seems that we are always missing someone from the group at our gatherings.  This weekend, we were all together and it was wonderful.  Thanks to some of my favorite girls for a fantastic weekend! :)
