Playing Catch Up

My deck has been finished for over a week! I LOOOVE it! It is definately the little things in life that make you happy...like having a nice platform to walk on from your door :)  Karl is the best- he made me 2 different samples of how the railing could go:
My beautiful deck/railing! :)
I have to wait 6 months to stain it... so it's my goal sometime in July to get that done!

On January 3rd we went to the caucus in Osky and Karl gave a speech that he had wrote that morning- he did a great job.  Shortly after we took off for Des Moines and hung out at Rick Santorum's party.  Karl was loving every minute of it!  I had lots of fun to but definately felt like a little person in a big world...
For my friends who watch "19 kids & counting"... this is Jim Bob Duggar.
And this is why I felt like a little person in a big world... there were video cameras and television people everywhere!  We were in the back row of the front section so we had fun watching them get ready to go on tv and their videographers.
For all of you  who texted us, "the back of your head is on tv", that is because we were standing right in front of the Channel 13 movie camera and Fox News.  When they show repeats of it on TV now and do little clips I'll tell Karl, "there's my camera", or "that's Becky's camera w/ her purple painted finger nails!".  It's kinda fun ...10 secs of fame. :)
This picture was taken while Rick was giving his speech.  The look on his wife Karen's face is undescribable..

This is our newest niece, Allison Grace.  She is healthy baby w/ lots of pretty dark hair--very cute baby!  Congrats Mark & Stacy!

Holiday Fun

Merry Christmas!  Merry by definition (in my mind) means happy and joyful!  Well, Christmas and the reason we celebrate in general is merry but it wasn't very merry this year for Karl & I.  In the middle of the night Karl got sick with what I now call "the plague" (aka the 24 hour flu).  It actually turned out that just about everyone in Karl's family got it those 24 hrs except for myself and his brother Mike...the FEW, the PROUD, the BRAVE.  (for all of you blondes out there, that's the saying for the marines...Mike was a marine...nevermind :)....).

So, off I went to church and family get togethers by myself.  First stop, Sully church.  It was wonderful.  Next stop, Vander Schel Christmas lunch at my uncles house in Pella.  Leah & I took on Matt & Rach in fooseball.  Clearly, the blondes won!!  And it was fun beating my very competitive brother in law and making him frustrated :)
Cute little boy :)  1st Christmas!
We had my family's Christmas on Monday night :)
Rowan loved his Boender Custom Farming tee shirt from Uncle Karl!
Yes, people, that is what you think it is!! It's a deck!!!
I always hire the best lookin' guys to do the job :)
Before he sawed off the ends...
 Working away...
 View from the entry

It looks great!!!! I can't wait to see the finished product!  Next step: a stair & railing.

You deserve a break for making this for me :)
New Years Eve Party!  Well, we and our friends have officially decided that we are "old married people" and can hardly stay awake past 10 so this was going to be a long night... midnight? Haven't done that since we were dating!  So, what better way to make ourselves stay awake?  Minute to Win It games!  Us girls had fun playing them and competing.  The boys played cards and watched tv in the living room.  Game #1: Stack the noodles.  The goal was to take a spagetti noodle and see how many circle noodles (ya know, the ones that are in chicken alfredo... I don't like chicken alfredo which is why I don't know the name of this noodle....) in one minute!
It's incredibly hard to laugh, and keep your mouth shut... :)
The noodle winner!
I know, attractive, right?  I don't know why God gave me the talents he did.... haha!  This game was the "stick the vasolene to your nose and then transfer cotton balls across the room without using your hands" game.  Clearly, I was awesome!
The tricky part....not letting it fall on your way across the room.
Now, last but not least.  I thought it would be appropriate to give this member of our family a final farewell.  Well, Mr. Plyboard, it has been nice knowing you for the past year and two months but it is officially your time to go.  You've been replaced.  It's nothing personal.  RIP Plyboard....RIP.  (really what's going through my head is what we sang at the closing of Christmas morning church service: HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH, HAL--LE--LUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Happy New Years! :)
